Xeomin fights back against those troublesome frown lines. When injected into muscles, it improves the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.
Xeomin, acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. By reducing these contractions, it can temporarily reduce the lines between your eyebrows.
It joins Botox and Dysport as the latest contender in a growing list of botulinum toxin type A injectables. Xeomin is so far the only one of the three that does not need refrigeration before use, which simplifies distribution.
The filler is also “naked,” meaning there are no additives. This may mean less risk of developing antibodies against it than other available neurotoxins. The body develops antibodies in response to a foreign invader and attacks. In theory, antibodies could prevent a neurotoxin from having its desired effects.
Do not use Xeomin interchangeably with other botulinum products.
Worldwide, more than 84,000 people used Xeomin injections. The U.S. became the 20th country to approve this new drug.
During treatment, which usually takes about 10-20 minutes, your technician injects Xeomin into the muscles in your forehead that cause frown lines between your eyebrows. Application of a topical anesthetic or cold pack can reduce discomfort.
You will see visible smoothing as early as 3-4 days after injection. The typical duration of effect registered as up to 3 months in clinical trials but may last a significantly longer or shorter time in individual patients.
Side effects include bleeding, bruising and redness at the injection site. These effects subside between a few hours to a few days after the procedure.
